Should I Get a Massage to Complement a Chiropractic Adjustment?

Chiropractic & Massage

Our office is blessed to house two of the best massage therapists in Prince William County. Many people ask if it is okay to get a massage while under chiropractic care. The answer is YES YES YES!!!. Chiropractors and massage therapists work very well together and both forms of healing compliment the other.

As many people know, chiropractic focuses on the musculoskeletal dysfunction of the spine and the nervous system while massage therapy focuses on the soft tissue structures that serve as a pulley system for the spine. So, of course, together they serve to improve our health and wellbeing.

After a massage, muscles are loosened which can make chiropractic treatment more effective and pain relief last longer. Massage improves circulation which ultimately delivers oxygen and nutrients that stimulate healthy muscle function to promote healing, reduce pain, and prevent further injuries. In addition, the soft tissues treated with massage will heal quicker once the joints are realigned. Massage allows the body to be less tense and the patient to be more relaxed making it easier to adjust the spine. This is why we recommend patients are massaged before or between their chiropractic adjustment.
